OVERVIEW
3rd Lair Skatepark opened in 1997 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The name, 3rd Lair, is derived from the fact that it was the 3rd skatepark to be located in that same location. During the park's stay in Minneapolis, 3rd Lair drew many, many demos, from the Tony Hawk Gigantic Skatepark Tours to Girl and Chocolate tours. Early on, 3rd Lair began filling the void in Twincities skateboarding by providing the first indoor park in many years.
As the park grew, the inner-city location failed to grow adequately along with it, and in 2002, 3rd Lair relocated to Golden Valley, a first ring suburb five minutes outside of Minneapolis. In its new location, the park was able to double its indoor space to roughly 25,000 square feet, and also expand to include outdoor skating. 3rd Lair continues to draw ever more quality demos, and now hosts national contests as well, including King of the Groms, Top Shop, and the Minneapolis stop of Damn Am. 3rd Lair Skatepark has been going strong for almost 11 years now, and continues to draw skateboarders from not only the Twincities area, but from all over the world.
